Mumbai Power Outage: Centre Rules Out China's Role Day After Maha Govt Calls It 'Cyber Sabotage'

Mumbai Power Outage: Minister of State Power and New & Renewable Energy R K Singh said China may be behind the other cyber-attacks. “China may have a hand in the other cyber-attacks but we cannot say this until we have full evidence. The US newspapers have though mentioned the Chinese cyber-attack in India,” he added.

A day after Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and states' nodal agency on Cyber Crime, Maharashtra Cyber, ascertained that the power outage that took place on October 12, 2020, in Mumbai was an attempted "Cyber Sabotage", the Centre has ruled out China's role in it.

Minister of State Power and New & Renewable Energy R K Singh while speaking to ABP News on Tuesday ruled out "cyber sabotage by China" behind the power outage.

“China had no role to play in the power outage in Mumbai on October 12 last year,” the minister said. The bureaucrat-turned politician, however, said China may be behind other cyber-attacks.

“China may have a hand in the other cyber-attacks but we cannot say this until we have full evidence. The US newspapers have though mentioned the Chinese cyber-attack in India,” he said. "We are aware that our (India) power grids are vulnerable and can be prone to cyberattacks," R K Singh added.

Meanwhile, Anil Deshmukh has said that the "cyber-attack" issue is not just confined to Mumbai and could be spread across the country.

"We should not politicise this issue. I have spoken to Union Minister RK Singh about this. He has sought details about it and said that we should remain alert," Maharashtra's Home Minister said on Tuesday.

Earlier, sources informed ABP News that 8 GB of unaccounted data was transferred to Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) servers from five different countries, including China, between June and October last year. The source also informed that 14 Trojan Horses were found in MSEB servers and attempts were made by blacklisted IP addresses to log in to these servers.
