Modilie: Oxford Dictionaries responds to Rahul Gandhi coining 'new word' to slam PM Modi

NEW DELHI: A day after Congress President Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi claiming there's a new word in the English dictionary -- "Modilie", the Oxford Dictionaries on Thursday said the word is "fake" and does not exist in its database. "There's a new word in the English Dictionary. Attached is a snapshot of the entry," Gandhi tweeted on Wednesday, ending his sentence with a smiley. "We can confirm that the image showing the entry ‘Modilie’ is fake and does not exist in any of our Oxford Dictionaries," Oxford Dictionaries said in reply to Gandhi's tweet. Gandhi had also put up a picture of a screenshot of a photo-shopped page of an English dictionary explaining the meaning of "Modilie". In the fabricated page, "Modilie" was described as a "mass noun".The photo-shopped page listed three meanings and examples of the usage of the word. On Thursday, Gandhi fired a fresh salvo at Modi accusing him of speaking lies, and mentioned about a website that he claimed "catalogues the best 'Modilies". Gandhi said "Modilies" is a new word that has become popular worldwide. "Now there's even a website that catalogues the best Modilies!" the Congress president tweeted, along with a link to the website "Modi Lies: The Most Accurate List of PM Modi's Many Lies". Gandhi has been accusing Modi of speaking "lies" on various issues, including on the Rafale jet deal.
