Man Arrested From Patiala For Killing Live-In Partner In Delhi's Tilak Nagar. Key Points

New Delhi: Days after the sensational Mehrauli murder rattled the country, another gruesome murder in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar came to the fore on Saturday.

The Delhi Police's Crime Branch on Friday arrested Manpreet Singh (45) from Patiala for allegedly killing his live-in partner Rekha Rani at their West Delhi residence.

Here are the key developments on the case:

  • Police found stab wounds on Rekha Rani's body that was recovered from her rented house in Ganesh Nagar where she was living with her 16-year-old daughter for 15 years.
  • As per DCP West, accused Manpreet was married and lived in Paschim Vihar with his wife and children. He was friends with Rekha for last five years and visited her often. They often quarrelled, he said.

  • According to the police, on the night of December 1, accused Manpreet reached his flat and put Rekha's 16-year-old daughter to sleep by mixing sleeping pills in her food. After that, he killed Rekha with a sharp weapon, which he had bought some time back for the purpose of killing.
  • Police suspect after coming across details of the Shraddha murder case, the accused hatched the plan and bought the sharp weapon.
  • Police said Manpreet was planning to execute a plan similar to Shraddha murder, but because of the daughter's presence in the house, he chose to abscond.
  • In her statement, Rekha’s daughter said she was sleeping in her room after taking medicine as she was unwell.
  • Unaware that her mother had been killed, she called Rekha on her phone thinking she might be in another room, and when Rekha did not answer, she looked for her in the house but found Manpreet, who told her that Rekha had gone out and she was also told to go out of the house.
  • As per a PTI report, after the daughter went out of the house, Manpreet locked the door and left. The daughter told the police that her mother and the man often used to fight over money.
  • As per police, Manpreet has six criminal cases, including kidnapping for ransom and attempt to murder. He dealt with sale and purchase of cars and is said to be involved in forging of documents of cars to sell them at a higher price.
