New Delhi: A large number of forces have been deployed by the Indian army and an important operation is underway in the border town of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla.
According to an IANS report, mobile internet and phone services were suspended on Monday in the border town of Uri in J&K's Baramulla district following a counter-infiltration operation going on there for the last 24 hours.
Defence sources said reinforcements have been called in and a large area has been brought under operation.
"An infiltration attempt has been made and we are looking for them."
"Whether they are still on this side or have gone back after they made the infiltration attempt. That issue has not been clarified and it is being verified on the ground.
"But, we are quite alert and we will ensure that minimal infiltration takes place," the army's Srinagar-headquartered 15 Corps commander, Lt Gen. D.P. Pandey told a TV channel, as mentioned in the IANS report.
According to a report in the Times of India, one of the groups was neutralised by the Indian Army in Bandipora district, while the Army authorities are looking into another group that infiltrated in the recent past.
This is the second major infiltration bid from the Uri sector in the Valley this year. The Army has not issued an official statement on the matter so far, but according to multiple reports, as of Tuesday morning, the operation was still underway. A total of 86 terrorists have been killed in the Valley this year.
