Lok Sabha Resolution Slams Opposition For Disruptions During PM Modi's Speech

The Lok Sabha condemned Opposition disruptions during Prime Minister Modi's address, labelling them a violation of Parliamentary norms.

The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a resolution slamming the Opposition's disruption during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address in the House. Union Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Opposition's actions violated Parliamentary standards.

Following the Prime Minister's speech, Defence Minister Singh proposed the resolution. "I move that the House condemns the manner in which the Opposition violated parliamentary norms during the Prime Minister's speech on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address," Rajnath Singh was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also reprimanded Opposition leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, stating their conduct was not in line with Parliamentary practices. "I provided ample time to all members, including over 90 minutes to the Leader of the Opposition... This behaviour is not consistent with Parliament's standards," he said.

Home Minister Amit Shah seconded the resolution, after which it was approved by a voice vote.

As the Prime Minister began his speech, Opposition members requested the Speaker to allow a Manipur MP to speak.

When Birla pointed out that one of them had already been given an opportunity, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, along with two Manipur MPs, rushed to the Well of the House.

Subsequently, several Congress MPs entered the well while TMC members stood in the aisles in support. Speaker Om Birla also pulled up Rahul Gandhi for encouraging the Opposition members to enter the well.

During the Prime Minister's address, Opposition MPs chanted slogans, such as 'we want justice for Manipur' and 'jhooth bole kauwa kaate'.

Reacting to the Opposition's conduct in the Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said: "Congress Party couldn't get people's mandate and now they are completely exposed due to their disruptive acts and evil intention which has lowered the dignity of the Parliament of India."

"Congress got 2 hours and 56 minutes to speak. They sought an extension, which was granted. They got 3 hours 48 minutes in total. They did not let their Manipur MP speak during the allotted time. When the Prime Minister, who is the leader of the House, tried to address the Parliament, they disrupted the proceedings," Rijiju said.
