Veteran BJP Leader LK Advani's Health Improves, Likely To Be Shifted From ICU In 1-2 Days

Advani has been under the care of Dr. Vinit Suri, a senior consultant in the neurology department, in the ICU of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals since December 12.

Veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister of India, LK Advani, who was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Delhi a few days ago, has shown gradual improvement in his health condition.

Advani has been under the care of Dr. Vinit Suri, a senior consultant in the neurology department, in the ICU of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals since December 12. Based on his progress it is expected that he might be shifted out of the ICU in the next 1-2 days, an official statement by the Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals said.

The BJP leader celebrated his 97th birthday last month and his recent health issue was the fourth time that he was hospotalised since July. Previously, he had previously been treated at both the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Apollo Hospital in Delhi.

The reason behind his recent hospitaisation remains unknown.

"L.K. Advani ji, former Deputy Prime Minister of India, has been admitted to ICU of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals for medical management and investigations. He is under the care of Dr Vinit Suri and is currently stable," a statement by the Apollo Hospitals had said.

"We request everyone to respect the family's privacy at this time. Further updates will be provided as appropriate," it added.

Following his recent hospitalisation, Union Health Minister JP Nadda also inquired about Advani's health. Nadda also spoke to the Advani family over phone and asked about the health update from the team of doctors who are treating the senior leader.

Advani was born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi (then part of undivided India), and joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of 14. He and his family relocated to India following the Partition in 1947.

Advani was named the BJP's prime ministerial candidate in the 2009 general elections, however, the party was unable to secure victory. His active role in politics gradually diminished over the years, but he continues to be known as an iconic figure in the BJP and in the political landscape of India.
