2 Terrorists Killed In Encounter With Security Forces In J&K's Machhal Sector

The security forces killed two terrorists in Kupwara's Machhal Sector in Jammu and Kashmir during an encounter.

Two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Kupwara’s Machhal Sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, said Kashmir Zone Police on X. The encounter took place based on specific information by the Kupwara Police and further operations are underway, it added. 

“Based on a specific information provided by Kupwara Police, an #encounter has started in Machhal sector in which two #terrorists have been killed so far. Operation underway. Further details shall follow,” said the Kashmir Zone Police. 

Earlier in the day, the Indian Army said that it had foiled an infiltration bid in Kupwara along the Line of Control (LoC). 

"In a Joint Operation launched by #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice & Intelligence agencies on 26 Oct 23, an infiltration bid has been foiled by alert troops along the #LoC in #Kupwara sector," Srinagar based Chinar Corps of the army said in a post on X.

It said the operation was in progress.

On October 10, two terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. 

The encounter started in Shopian's Alshipora after security forces launched an anti-militancy operation following an information about the presence of militants in the area, the police said. Further search is underway, they added.

The two militants were identified as Morifat Maqbool and Jazim Farooq alias Abrar belonging to the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, said the Kashmir Additional Director General of Police, and added that Abrar was involved in the killing of late Kashmir Pandit Sanjay Sharma. 

Earlier this month on October 4, the security forces neutralised two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Kulgam district 

They were identified as Basit Amin Bhat of Frisal and Saqib Ahmad Lone of Hawoora, Kulgam. Both of these individuals had a documented history of involvement in various terror-related activities. 

Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition, including two AK series rifles were also recovered from the encounter site.
