Kerala: Political Storm Takes Over EP Jayarajan’s Autobiography Amid Bypolls
According to the excerpts, Jayarajan reportedly expressed disappointment over his removal as LDF convenor and dissatisfaction over fielding ex-KPCC leader P Sarin in Palakkad.
As Kerala voters head to the vote in crucial by-elections for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat and Chelakkara Assembly constituency, a controversy erupted on Wednesday over the purported autobiography of veteran CPI(M) leader EP Jayarajan. Early morning broadcasts on local media channels allegedly revealed 'excerpts' from an unpublished book attributed to Jayarajan, including remarks critical of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government and his own party, the CPI(M).
The timing of these revelations, coinciding with bypoll day, has sparked a significant political debate.
The unpublished autobiography, titled 'Kattan Chayayum Parippuvadayum: The Life of a Communist', was initially scheduled for release on Wednesday by a well-known publisher, as per a report on PTI. The publisher had unveiled the cover on social media the previous day but postponed the release, citing technical issues. According to the excerpts broadcast, Jayarajan reportedly expressed disappointment over his removal as LDF convenor and dissatisfaction with the decision to field former KPCC digital media convenor P. Sarin as an independent candidate in Palakkad.
In response to the leaked excerpts, Jayarajan strongly denied authorship and condemned the book's contents as "baseless nonsense." Speaking to the media, he insisted that his autobiography is still a work in progress and has not been submitted for publication. "I have not written anything like this in my book and never intended to write anything of the sort," he stated, labeling the timing of the leak a "deliberate move" meant to influence the elections. Jayarajan also called for an investigation into how the publisher acquired the alleged content.
The controversy has stirred reactions across the political spectrum. U.R. Pradeep, the LDF candidate in Chelakkara, refrained from commenting on the issue, noting that party leaders would address it in due course.
