Karnataka Liquor Sales Hit Rs 308 Crore During New Year Celebrations
The festive season saw robust business throughout the week with booze sales totaling Rs 408.58 million on December 27 alone.
Karnataka saw record liquor sales during the New Year celebrations with the Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited (KSBCL) reporting sales of Rs 308 crore by 2 PM on December 31, 2024. This sum was substantially greater than the corporation's aim of Rs 250 crore. Compared to 2023, it also marked a substantial increase compared to the Rs 193 crore sales recorded on the same date.
According to KSBCL sources, 4.83 lakh boxes of Indian-made liquor (IML) were sold, generating Rs 250.25 crore in revenue, as per a report on IANS. Additionally, 2.92 lakh boxes of beer contributed Rs 57.75 crore to the total sales. A combined total of 7.76 lakh boxes of liquor were sold across the state during the celebrations.
The festive season saw robust business throughout the week, with booze sales totaling Rs 408.58 million on December 27 alone. On that day, 6.22 lakh boxes of IML and 4.04 lakh boxes of beer were sold, totaling Rs 327.50 crore and Rs 80.58 crore, respectively.
Excise Department officials expressed satisfaction with the record-breaking sales, notably in Bengaluru. The capital city’s iconic M.G. Road and Brigade Road were bustling with over one lakh revelers who gathered between 11 PM and midnight to welcome the New Year.
Meanwhile, the government and police implemented extensive security measures to ensure public safety on New Year's eve. Over 2,000 police personnel, including women officers, were deployed in high-traffic areas such as M.G. Road, Brigade Road, and Church Street. An additional 1,000 personnel were stationed in Koramangala.
The traffic police also conducted a special drive to check drunk and drive cases on New Year's eve. Around 513 cases were registered based on the check on more than 28,127 vehicles.
On New Year's Ever celebrations in Karnataka, State Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara told ANI, "... No untoward incidents were reported across the state, including Bengaluru... The police department took all necessary precautions... I extend my congratulations and gratitude to them for this."
