Karnataka: HD Kumaraswamy breaks down in tears, says 'not happy being chief minister'

A teary-eyed Kumaraswamy said that he has suffered the 'pain of a coalition government'.

New Delhi: It has hardly been two months of the formation of the new coalition government in Karnataka, but rifts are already visible between the two allies JDS and Congress. Taking all by a surprise, HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday broke down at an event in Bengaluru and said that he is not happy after becoming the Chief Minister as he has to suffer the 'pain of a coalition government'. While addressing the gathering in the Kannada language, the chief minister broke down in tears. He was seen wiping his tears with a handkerchief. He said: “You are standing with bouquets to wish me as one of your brothers became chief minister and you all are happy, but I am not.” He said: “I know the pain of coalition govt. I became Vishkanth (lord Shiva)  & swallowed pain of this government”. He also said that if he felt like, he would instantly walk out of the coalition. Reacting on Kumaraswamy’s remark, Karnataka Deputy CM G Parameshwara said that CM has to be always happy. He said: “How can he say that? He must be definitely happy, CM has to be always happy, if he's happy we'll all be happy.” CM Kumaraswamy and his deputy Parameshwara will be visiting Rahul Gandhi for a discussion on cabinet and portfolios. The rift between the two parties was earlier seen during the presentation of budget in July beginning. Both were not happy with each other over the budget. As per reports, former CM Siddaramaiah wanted that the new budget should be on the lines of the budget presented by him in February; Whereas, JD(S) wanted to present a fresh budget. Congress and JDS coalition government came to power after a lot of protest and the Supreme Court’s interference. Kumaraswamy’s party was being viewed as the kingmaker in the elections. However, in the run-up to the elections, Kumaraswamy had said: "I will be the king and not the kingmaker." The words of the 58-year-old Vokkaliga leader had proved prophetic after he was made the chief minister despite his JDS finishing a poor third in the electoral battlefield.
