Kapil Dev, Sidhu and Gavaskar invited for Imran Khan’s swearing-in ceremony as PM in Pakistan

NEW DELHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, who will take over as prime minister on 18 August, extended an invitation to Punjab’s Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar for his swearing-in ceremony in Pakistan. In a Tweet, it was said 'Cricket legends from India and Kaptaan's old friends Kapil Dev, Sidhu and Sunil Gavaskar have been invited to attend Oath Taking Ceremony of Pakistan's PM Imran Khan’ Javed Khan, Additional Information Secretary of PTI, said the members of Imran Khan's 1992 World Cup winning team have also been invited to attend the ceremony. A similar announcement regarding inviting Indian cricketers and was earlier made. However, it was later said that Khan has opted for a small ceremony where no foreign guests would be invited. In a statement, Navjot Singh Sidhu had previously said “Its a huge honour for me. It's a personal invitation (for Imran Khan's swearing-in) from him and not a political one”. While the former Indian skipper Kapil Dev had said that he would attend the swearing-in ceremony of Pakistan Prime Minister-in-waiting Imran Khan with the approval of the Indian government if invited. According to figures provided by the Election Commission of Pakistan, the PTI emerged as the single largest party with 115 seats after the Election Commission of Pakistan released the complete preliminary results for 270 of 272 National Assembly constituencies.
