J&K: Suspected IED Planted On Bandipora-Srinagar Highway Defused After 6 Hours
Police's bomb squad was called in after the Explosive Detective Dog found the IED planted in a gas cylinder.
New Delhi: Security forces destroyed a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) on Saturday, planted on the roadside along Bandipora-Srinagar highway near Gamroo-Lawdara crossing in north Kashmir, averting a major tragedy. The road is frequently used by Army and other security forces vehicles as it connects frontier areas of Gurez.
First, The IED was detected by a road opening party then an explosive Detective Dog (ED Dog) detected the suspicious IED lying by the roadside in the morning near Gamroo-Lawdara crossing. The Bomb Disposal Squad reached the location as soon as the information was confirmed.IGP Kashmir, while confirming the incident said that the IED was planted inside a gas cylinder on the roadside and was later defused after six hours by the police’s bomb disposal squad.
The official said that following the detection of suspected IED, traffic on Bandipora-Srinagar highway was halted from both sides as a precautionary measure. Traffic was diverted to other routes and the whole area was sealed where the suspected IED was planted and later diffused.
Pertinently, on March 19 an IED was defused by BDS which was planted near higher secondary school Nadihal which is very close to this area, while a similar IED was defused in Rafiabad on June 9.
