Jharkhand Fire Incident: HC Issues Directions For Fire Safety Audit In State, Next Hearing On Feb 17

Jharkhand High Court issued directions for a time-bound fire safety audit in the entire state. The High court also sought a detailed report on the incident in which 14 people lost their lives.

New Delhi: After taking cognisance of the Dhanbad fire incident in which 14 people lost their lives, Jharkhand High Court issued directions for a time-bound fire safety audit in the entire state on Thursday, as reported by the news agency ANI. The High court also sought a detailed report on the incident. The next hearing on the matter will take place on February 17.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, a massive fire broke out at a residential apartment in Dhanbad which killed 14 people including 10 women, three men, and one child while injuring several 12.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in the devastating fire at a Dhanbad apartment and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next-of-kin of the dead. PM Modi also announced that an amount of Rs 50,000 each has also been sanctioned for the injured in the incident. As many as 14 people died and 12 others were injured after a fire broke out in the Dhanbad apartment.

 Jharkhand Health minister Banna Gupta on Wednesday said the government has given instructions to the Deputy Commissioner of Dhanbad to constitute a committee under his chairmanship to probe the massive apartment fire, which left 14 persons dead. The minister further said that in 2019, the department was allocated Rs 25.36 crore for the purchase of fire safety equipment but only Rs 1.86 crore could be spent.
