J&K: Two Pakistani JeM Terrorists Killed In Kulgam Encounter, Incriminating Materials Recovered

The search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding militants fired at the security forces in the Mirhama area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam

New Delhi: Two Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed in an encounter that broke out in the Mirhama area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam on Saturday. 

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar informed that both JeM terrorists were from Pakistan.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that "both the killed JeM terrorists are Pakistanis. Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition including two AK rifles, seven AK magazines, nine grenades were recovered from their possession. Search still underway."

"The killed JeM terrorists have been identified as Sultan Pathan and Zabiullah, both residents of Pakistan. They were categorised terrorists and active since the year 2018 in the areas of Kulgam-Shopian districts," he revealed, as quoted by ANI.

Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the Mirhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there, new agency PTI reported a police official as saying.

The search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding militants fired at the security forces, he said.

Notably, the encounter broke out on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Union Territory. PM Modi will participate in the celebration of National Panchayati Raj Day in Jammu today at around 11.30 am.

In an important development, two Pakistani JeM terrorists were killed in a gunfight near an Army camp in the Sunjwan area on the outskirts of Jammu on Friday.

Director-General of Police Dilbag Singh had said the two terrorists were part of a suicide squad of Pakistan-based JeM and their infiltration was suspected to be a "big conspiracy" to sabotage the Prime Minister's visit.
