Jammu & Kashmir To Gain 7 Assembly Seats After Delimitation, Process To End By March 2022

She said the members of the Delimitation Commission met more than 290 parties and organisations, which had around 800 members.

Jammu: The delimitation process in Jammu and Kashmir will end by March 2022 and after that seven assembly seats will increase here, said the Delimitation Commission headed by Justice (Retd.) Ranjana Prakash Desai on Friday.

“We are here for the last three days. The ideas of all parties have been written. We will work according to the law. We will come again in future. The delimitation will be based on the 2011 census. There were 12 districts in the previous delimitation but now there are 20 districts in the state,” Justice (Retd.) Desai told the media here.

She said the members of the Delimitation Commission met more than 290 parties and organisations, which had around 800 members.

“These parties expressed happiness over the delimitation. Some parties also demanded political reservation,” she added.

The Delimitation Commission members, including Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and State Election Commissioner K.K. Sharma, also met the Chief Secretary and demanded that an officer from Jammu and Kashmir be made the nodal officer.

The Delimitation Commission has said that those who want to give any opinion on this exercise can give that to this nodal officer.

“We wish the political parties, who maintained a distance from the Delimitation Commission, would have come and met us. The geographical conditions were not taken into account in the first delimitation. We assure that this process will be as per the law and will be transparent. Jammu and Kashmir is a UT for us,” she said.
