Jammu and Kashmir: Two militants killed in encounter by security forces in Nowgam

Central Kashmir DIG V K Birdi said “on specific info, we launched search operation along with 15 RR & CRPF. 2 militants killed. People are pelting stones. We are requesting them not to come near the site so that we can clear the explosives which generally remain with militants.”

Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Nowgam area of the city on Wednesday. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the city after they received information that some militants had sneaked in the area. The militants opened fire on security forces, triggering a gunbattle in which two terrorists were killed. The identity of the killed terrorists is being ascertained. Arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter by the police. While talking to new agency ANI, Central Kashmir DIG V K Birdi said “on specific info, we launched search operation along with 15 RR & CRPF. 2 militants killed. People are pelting stones. We are requesting them not to come near the site so that we can clear the explosives which generally remain with militants.” In the area, mobile internet was snapped in Srinagar and locals have been told not to go near the operation site till the area has been sanitised. Authorities have also shut educational institutions as a precautionary measure.
