Flight Operations Resume Partially At Srinagar Airport. Srinagar-Jammu Highway Remains Shut

Train service which remained suspended for a day on Monday has been partially resumed from Budgam to Anantnag today.

Fresh snowfall in Kashmir on Sunday and Monday snapped road, rail, and air connectivity which partially resumed today.

Srinagar: Flight operations resumed partially at Srinagar airport a day after the Valley received fresh snowfall snapping road and air connectivity. The inclement weather condition grounded flights at Srinagar airport and the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for traffic which continued today for the second day as well. 

Director Srinagar Airport Kuldeep Singh said flight operations resumed today after a slight delay in the morning.

"Several morning flights were delayed due to low visibility, but now the flight operations are going on smoothly," he said.

Meanwhile, an official said that the restoration work on Srinagar-Jammu highway was still underway and advised people not to take any journey till the work gets completed. 

He also said train service, which remained suspended for a day on Monday, has been partially resumed from Budgam to Anantnag.

Train service resumed from Budgam to Sadura and the first train ran at 08:30 am from Budgam, the official added. 

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other party MPs who were in Srinagar after the competition of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra were not able to attend the President’s joint address to both Houses of Parliament today at the start of Budget Session because of delayed flight operations at Srinagar airport. 

In Kashmir, moderate to very heavy snowfall since Sunday night stalled road, rail and air traffic, while nearly 500 roads, including three national highways, were closed in Himachal Pradesh.

Srinagar received about seven inches of snowfall, Gulmarg more than a foot, Pahalgam nine inches, Gurez 1.5 feet and the plains of Kupwara district around four inches, said the officials, reported news agency PTI.

The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster issued warning of medium danger level avalanches at above 2,500 metres over Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kupwara and Ramban and advised people to restrict movement and evacuate unprotected settlements, the report added.
