India Stands Forever For Humanity: Jaishankar On Sending Relief To Quake-Hit Turkey

India has, so far, sent four C-17 Hercules planes with NDRF personnel and components to set up a 30-bed field hospital in Turkey.

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said that India stands forever for humanity when asked about sending relief to Turkey amid politicial differences with the country. "Everyday we see ups & downs in geopolitical situations but India has stable relations with countries," Jaishankar told news agency ANI. "As per our policy of 'Vasudaiva Kutumbakam' - India stands forever for humanity," he added. 

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale hit southern Turkey in the early hours of Monday, with nearly 4,000 people dead and thousands of buildings toppled. 

As per the latest official figures, at least 6,234 people were reported dead in Turkey, said the Turkish officials with nearly 34,810 people injured. 

In the government-controlled and rebel-held regions of Syria, 2,530 casualties have been confirmed a total of 4,654. 

More than 8,000 people have been rescued so far and 26,721 people are being treated for injuries. Around 60,000 rescuers from several countries are on the ground assisting in rescue-&-relief efforts.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that a 6-tonne consignment of life-saving medicines and emergency medical items was dispatched to Syria.

The other nations that are sending help to Turkey are the UK, the US, Italy, France, Spain, 13 members of the European Union, Russia, Israel, Germany, Austria, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, Swtizerland, Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro, Moldova, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, Egypt, Mexico, New Zealand, and China.
