India Boiling: Brutal Heatwave Grips North As Mercury Soars Past 40°C

Heatwave conditions will prevail for another day in northern and western India, with temperatures expected to rise again by the weekend. Yellow and orange alerts have been issued for several areas.

North India Weather: India is boiling, and it's not just political tensions. The sun is baking the country, especially the northern and western parts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said heatwave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed over most parts of West Rajasthan and in some parts of East Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch, isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat on April 8 and 9.

Warm night conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of south Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Saurashtra & Kutch and West Madhya Pradesh on the intervening night of April 8 and 9.

Weather Forecast For April 10

As per the IMD's bulletin, the heatwave is unlikely to abate over the next 24 hours. "No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over Northwest India, Gujarat, and Maharashtra over the next 24 hours. Maximum temperatures are likely to drop by 2-4°C over the next three days and then rise again," he said.

Heatwave and severe heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in several places over Rajasthan on April 9. This is likely to continue in isolated pockets on April 10, 14, and 15. 

Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, Saurashtra, and Kutch will also continue to sizzle on April 10. The temperature will rise again on March 15. "The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to be in the range of 38 to 40°C and 24 to 26°C, respectively," the IMD bulletin read.

Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat will continue to bear the brunt of a heatwave on April 10.

Yellow Orange Alert In North, Central India

In Delhi, the maximum temperature recorded on April 8 was 41 degrees Celsius.

Yellow and orange alerts for heatwaves will remain in place for April 10 in most regions of North, West, and Central India. These include parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.

Rain Relief In South, Northeast

Hailstorms occurred at isolated places over Telangana and Meghalaya. Heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Bihar. Thunderstorm accompanied with Squally/Gusty winds prevailed at isolated locations over sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, North Interior Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, and Tripura.

As per the IMD, heavy rainfall is very likely in isolated places over Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh on April 10; sub-Himalayan West
Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya on April 10 and 11.
