IMD Predicts Heavy Rains In Chennal, Puducherry From Oct 29-31. Issues 'Orange Alert'

Met department has issued orange alert for coastal and southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for coastal and southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The alert came following a low pressure area developed over the central and southern regions of Bay of Bengal. 

News agency ANI in a tweet has quoted the General Director of the Indian Meteorological Department stating the same.  

As a result of the low pressure being developed, coastal and southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are predicted to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall between October 30 to November 1. The Director General also said that warnings have been issued for the fishermen as reported by the ANI. 

According to the information available on IMD’s website heavy rains, ranging between 7 to 11 centimeters, are expected in Tamil Nadu over places like Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi from evening of October 27 till October 28 morning. 

For October 28, the IMD forecasts heavy rain over isolated places in Tamil Nadu like Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam. 

The Indian Meteorological Department, Chennai has issued an orange alert from morning of October 29 to November 1, 2021. Heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging between 12-20 centimeters or 115.6 millimeter to 204.4 millimeter has been predicted. The website states scattered heavy with isolated very heavy rainfall over the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu like Chennai, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Southern districts like Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Thenkasi, Thoothukudi and Puducherry. 

As reported by the Hindu, day temperature in some areas in Chennai is expected to remain around 32 degree celsius till Saturday. Strong winds ranging between 40-50 kilometers per hour, occasionally reaching upto 60 kilometers per hour, are expected to prevail over southwest Bay of Bengal from Thursday to Saturday.
