Have Maintained Silence, Any Statement I Make Will Impact Probe: PM Modi On Ferozepur Security Breach

Recently, on February 6, the five-member committee formed by the Supreme Court had reached the incident site at Ferozepur to investigate into the matter for the first time.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chose to reserve his silence on the security breach in Punjab as the matter is under an investigation on the order of the Supreme Court.

In an exclusive rights interview with news agency ANI, Prime Minister Modi said, “I have maintained silence on the issue. The Supreme Court is looking into the matter seriously. Any statement that I make in this regard will impact the investigation, and it is not right.”

Notably, after the security breach incident of the Prime Minister in Punjab’s Ferozepur last month, the Centre and the Punjab government had initiated separate investigations into the matter.

While the Central government formed an inquiry committee headed by the Security Secretary along with Intelligence Bureau and SPG officers, the Punjab government also constituted a probe panel of retired Justice Mehtab Singh Gill and Home Secretary Anurag Verma.

Then the matter reached the apex court, that dismissed both the committees and formed a joint panel on January 12, headed by retired top court judge Justice Indu Malhotra to probe into the security lapse issue.

Recently, on February 6, the five-member committee formed by the Supreme Court had reached the incident site at Ferozepur to investigate into the matter for the first time.

Expressing his trust on the judicial system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as quoted by ANI, said, "Whatever it is, the Supreme Court's Committee will bring the truth before the nation. We should wait till then."

It is to be noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy was stuck on a flyover in Punjab for about 20 minutes because of a protest by the farmers.

The cavalcade was stuck but the private cars were seen approaching, which was a matter of major security breach. PM Modi returned to the airport in Bathinda because of the lapse.
