The incident which was a grim reminder of 2016 Delhi gangrape case, had led to massive criticism of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh.
The victim was allegedly raped by four upper-caste men in Hathras on September 14. She died on September 29 at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital during treatment.
What further outraged masses was the way she was cremated in the dead of the night near her home on September 30. Her family alleged they were forced by the local police to hurriedly conduct her last rites. Local police officers, however, said the cremation was carried out "as per the wishes of the family".
After facing flak, the Yogi government, transferred the case to the CBI. The CBI had constituted a team to probe the incident and handed over the probe to its Ghaziabad unit.
The team has already recorded statements of family members of the victim.
