GoAir Sacks Senior Pilot For Offensive Tweets On PM Modi

Following the tweet of the senior pilot, the airline took cognisance of the matter and parted itself by taking action against him.

New Delhi: Low-cost airline carrier of India, GoAir on Saturday terminated one of its senior pilots from service over his derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter. "GoAir has a zero-tolerance policy and it is mandatory for all GoAir employees to comply with the company's employment rules, regulations, and policies, including social media behavior. The airline does not associate itself with personal views expressed by any individual or an employee. GoAir has terminated the services of the Captain with immediate effect," a GoAir spokesperson said. Following the tweet of the senior pilot, the airline took cognizance of the matter and parted itself by taking action against him. Post-termination, the former GoAir pilot took to Twitter and tendered an apology for his tweet. "I apologize for my tweets about the prime minister and other offensive tweets, which may have hurt sentiments of anyone associated. I convey that GoAir is not associated with any of my tweets directly or indirectly as they were personal views. I take full responsibility for my actions and would like to apologize for my mistakes and willingly accept the consequences," the pilot said. The GoAir pilot had made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister on January 7 that the management found offensive and against the company policy. GoAir is a Pune based low-cost airline carrier, has been operating in the country since 2007. The airline is termed as low-cost as it operates on a single type of aircraft i.e.  Airbus A320 and offers only a single configuration of cabin class across its fleet. The fifth-largest airline operates over 330 flights per day with a fleet of 57 aircraft over 38 destinations including 27 domestic and 11 international.
