Bengal Polls: Month After Convoy Attack, JP Nadda Back In Mamata's Turf To Woo Farmers | 10 Points

Kolkata: Almost a month after his convoy was attacked, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief JP Nadda on Saturday, kickstarted the party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. The party chief launched the “Ek Mutthi Chawal” (a fistful of rice) programme, which aims to spread awareness about the contentious agriculture laws that were passed by the Union Government in September 2020, amid the farmers protest in Delhi.

Here are the 10-point development of JD Nadda’s Visit to Bengal:
1. Nadda arrived at the Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport in West Bardhaman district at around noon and took a helicopter ride to Jagdanandpur village in East Bardhaman, where he was first scheduled to do puja at a temple and then meet farmers.
2. Lashing out at the TMC Government, Nadda slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not implementing the PM Kisan scheme in the state and vowed to implement the beneficiary scheme ahead of the upcoming state elections.
3. Lashing out at Banerjee for depriving over 70 lakh farmers of benefits such as the Rs 6,000 per year under the Centre's flagship PM-KISAN scheme, he said, “It is unfortunate that the farmers of West Bengal are deprived of PM Kisan scheme."
4. While addressing the rally at the Jagdanandpur village in East Bardhaman, Nadda also attacked Mamata’s nephew Abhishek, calling him “Rajkumar”, and alleged him of corruption in the state.
5. Nadda alleged the TMC supremo for the scam in the Amphan fund sent from the Union Government and said, “Mamata’s party leaders siphoned off money and food grains sent by the Centre for the affected people during Amphan.”
6. The rally comes almost a month after the attack on the convoys of BJP chief JP Nadda and General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, during their journey to Diamond Harbour from Kolkata.
7. Following the attack, Union Home Ministry sent a letter to the West Bengal government to summon three IPS officers - deployed for BJP president JP Nadda’s security, and called them on Central deputation.
8. The IPS officers were – Inspector General of Police, South Bengal, Rajiv Pandey, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Presidency Range, Pravin Kumar Tripathi, and Superintendent of Police, Diamond Harbour, Bholanath Pandey.
9. According to sources, following the rally, Nadda will be holding a road-show from Burdwan Clock Tower to Lord Curzon Gate in Burdwan and address a press conference in the evening.
10. In a bid to end TMC’s 10-year rule in the state, the BJP has launched an aggressive campaign in West Bengal. Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly are due in April-May.
