FIR Against BJP's Nupur Sharma In Mumbai Over Remarks On Prophet Muhammad — Details

BJP's national spokesperson Nupur Sharma has been booked over her remarks on Prophet Muhammad during a television debate. She has claimed that the clip was heavily edited.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party's national spokesperson Nupur Sharma has been booked over her remarks on Prophet Muhammad during a television debate. A case has been registered at the Pydhonie Police Station area in Mumbai under sections 295A, 153A, and 505B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after a complaint by Raza Academy, a Sunni Barelvi organisation of Indian Sunni Muslims, for her "remarks on the Holy Prophet on a National channel", news agency ANI reported.

After a video of Nupur Sharma's remarks during a TV debate on the Gyanvapi mosque case went viral, the BJP spokesperson claimed that the clip was heavily edited.

"There is a so-called fact-checker who has started to vitiate the atmosphere by putting out a heavily edited and selected video from one of my debates last night. Ever since I've been receiving death and rape threats, including beheading threats against me and family members," Nupur Sharma told news agency ANI on Friday.

"I've tagged the Police Commissioner and Delhi Police. I suspect there'll be harm done to me and my immediate family members. In case there's any harm done to me or my family members Mohammed Zubair, who I think is a proprietor of Alt News, is completely responsible," she added.

On the other hand, Mohammed Zubair has dismissed the allegation about him posting a doctored clip from the debate to target Nupur while alleging that the original video was made private "a day after the BJP spokesperson alleged that I 'heavily edited' the video." "We've downloaded the full video though," he mentioned in a tweet.

Earlier, Nupur Sharma said that she is collating all the threats against her and will file a complaint in the matter. In response to this, Zubair has also shared screenshots of abusive responses to him and his family amid the row.
