Farmers' Protest Day 6: Farmers-Govt Meet Inconclusive, Next Round Of Talks On Dec 3 | 10 Points

New Delhi: After the Central government agreed to have discussion with the agitating farmers over the new farm bills, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday held a second round of talks with the leaders of the Bhartiya Kisan Union-Tikait group, and it was decided to continue the talks tomorrow. 1. The farmer unions rejected the government's offer to set up a committee to look into issues raised by them and said they will intensify their stir until their demands are met. 2. The 35 farmer leaders held a three-hour meeting at Vigyan Bhavan with the ministerial delegation that included Tomar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Som Parkash, after the Centre last night announced that it was advancing the talks earlier scheduled for Thursday. 3. In a statement, the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), an umbrella outfit of the farmer unions which are pressing for the repeal of the laws, said the talks remained inconclusive. 4. It said they rejected the government proposal to form a five-member committee to look into the objections and study the concerns, while asserting that such committees have led to no results in the past. 5. It further said protests will now intensify across the country until their demands are met. As per media reports, the talks were held in a cordial atmosphere as Tomar listened to the farmers' representatives attentively and asked them to submit their suggestions by Wednesday. 7. Addressing the media after the meeting, the minister said that the farmers had some apprehensions and "we have asked them to submit the issues and we will discuss them". 8. An over three-hour-long dialogue between a group of more than 32 farmers' union leaders and the government remained inconclusive on Tuesday. The fourth round of talks will be held on Thursday. 9. The farmers declared that they will continue their protest and the agitation will be strengthened day by day until the government resolves the issues by agreeing to their demands. 10. Braving the plummeting temperatures, men and women, many of them with their children, have assembled at Delhi's borders in Singhu, Tikri and Gazipur to take part in the protests against the new farm laws. On Tuesday, hundreds of farmers gathered at the Noida and Delhi border too.
