'Even Unconditional Surrender Is Better Worded': Cong MP Manish Tewari On Jaishankar's Remarks On China
Earlier on Wednesday, the Congress hit out at Jaishankar, calling him a "failed" minister and alleging that his remarks have "demeaned" the valour of India's armed forces.
New Delhi: Congress MP Manish Tewari took to Twitter to criticize External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for his recent remarks on the border tension with China and said even an “unconditional surrender is better worded if not articulated with greater dignity.”
Speaking on the border issue with China, Jaishankar, in an interview with news agency ANI's Smita Prakash, said China is a bigger economy and India has been responding to the situation that China has created along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh by violating border agreements.
"They are the bigger economy what I am going to do? I am a smaller economy. Am I going to sort of pick up a fight with a bigger economy? It is not a question of reacting. It is a question of common sense. We had in agreement that we are not supposed to bring to the borders in large numbers...because it is in our interest to stabilize our borders or a situation it is not out of love affection or sentiment. It is a core calculation," EAM Jaishankar said.
Reacting to his statement, Lok Sabha member Manish Tewari said, “Minister @DrSJaishankar even an unconditional surrender is better worded if not articulated with greater dignity.” “If this is the defeatist mindset no wonder that they have been ducking a discussion in Parliament on China since September 2020,” he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Congress hit out at Jaishankar, calling him a "failed" minister and alleging that his remarks have "demeaned" the valour of India's armed forces.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also alleged that foreign policy has been reduced to photo operations and a chest-thumping exercise.
Referring to his statement, she said, "What exactly does he mean by saying this? Is he telling us that we are not capable of protecting our territorial sovereignty. What he is trying to do by saying this is essentially 'break and shake' the confidence of our Indian economy and demean the valour of our armed forces. This is one of the most blasphemous statements made by any foreign minister.”
