Relief For NCR Commuters! SC Recommends One Pass For Delhi, Noida & Gurgaon; Asks States To Devise Common Policy In A Week

The Supreme Court acknowldged the difficulties being faced by the daily commuters of Delhi- National Capital Region and recommended having a common pass for the residents of NCR.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing travel restrictions in Delhi leading to difficulties for commuters residing in parts of the National Capital Region, due to variation in rules of the adjoining states, the Supreme Court asked the Union of India, to ensure that a common rule is chalked out for the travelers in the NCR. Also Check: Vehicles form beeline on DND flyover to enter Delhi from Noida The apex court asked the Union of India (UoI) to convene a meeting of representatives/officials from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana, and to try to evolve a common policy for movement of commuters between the three states in Delhi-NCR region. The court has asked solicitor general Tushar Mehta to ensure that the issue is resolved within a week. A recommendation has been given during the hearing that instead of three passes, there should be one common pass recognized in the NCR, to do away with the ambiguity prevailing. Also: SC orders for one pass arrangement in NCR region As interstate movement were allowed by the Ministry of Home Affairs since June 1, Delhi government decided to seal its border for a week on Monday. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the decision will be reviewed again to open borders in one week after suggestions from citizens. Read: Delhi Borders To Be Sealed For Next One Week, Says Kejriwal; Essential Services Exempted In the unlock 1 phase, the Ministry of Home Affairs has allowed free interstate movement across the country, however, it left the final decision with the local authorities to impose curbs, depending on the situation of coronavirus crisis in the particular state or district. Delhi Gurugram and Noida, house several residents who have to commute daily through the state borders to their respective work places. A situation of confusion prevailed as Noida authorities said it will not open its border in unlock 1, while Delhi also decided to seal the city. Haryana took a step back after Delhi’s decision and also imposed curbs on its Delhi borders. Delhi-Noida border and Delhi-Gurugram border witnessed heavy vehicular traffic on the first day of unlocking phase, as commuters came out in large numbers. Also Watch:
