Delhi-Chandigarh Highway Becomes Country's First EV-Friendly Route, Charging Points Made Available

According to the government, the Delhi-Chandigarh highway is the first EV-friendly highway in the country. A solar-powered charging station on this highway is capable of charging all types of EVs.

New Delhi: The Union government has been pushing for growth in the field of Electric Vehicles in the automotive sector for some time now. Taking a step further in this process, the government has developed the Delhi-Chandigarh highway as an EV-friendly highway.

According to the Centre, it is the first EV-friendly highway in India. At a virtual event, Minister of Heavy Industries Mahendra Nath Pandey on Thursday launched a state-of-the-art charging station at Karna Lake Resort in Haryana.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has developed a network of charging stations on this highway under the FAME-I scheme of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India. A solar-powered charging station on this highway is capable of charging all types of EVs.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahendra Nath Pandey said, "This will be a very important step towards achieving the vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi". He said the PM has been constantly emphasising the importance of environmental protection in national security and this is a crucial step in this direction. Department of Heavy Industries Secretary Arun Goel and Dr. Nalin Singhal, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL were also present for the occasion.

Charging stations installed at a distance of every 25 to 30 kms

19 charging stations have been constructed so far on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway. These charging stations are installed at a distance of every 25 to 30 kilometres. Built at Karna Lake Resort, this new e-charging station is located in the center of Delhi-Chandigarh highway. BHEL is also working on upgrading other charging stations on the highway this year.
