After Air Chief Marshal, Defence Secy Meets PM Modi Amid Tensions Over Pahalgam Attack

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid tensions with Pakistan over the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh is currently meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid heightened tensions with Pakistan over Pahalgam terrorist attack where 26 civilians were killed. More details awaited.

The meeting comes a day after Indian Air Force Air Chief Marshal AP Singh met with the Prime Minister at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in the national capital. PM Modi has been holding a series of meeting as he earlier met Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Chief of the Naval staff. Last week, he held a meeting Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.

While there has been no official readout of the meeting, it is being seen as part of ongoing deliberations over the dastardly attack in the Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir where gunmen opened fire on tourists.

Last Tuesday, in a high-level meeting with the top brass, Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi gave the armed forces "complete operational freedom" to decide on the mode, targets and timing of the response to the deadly terror attack.

He also stressed the national resolve to deal a "crushing blow to terrorism".

UNSC To Discuss India-Pakistan Situation

The United Nations Security Council will hold closed consultations on Monday over mounting tensions between the two countries.

The closed consultations were requested by Pakistan which currently sits as a non-permanent member of the powerful 15-nation Security Council. Greece, which holds the Presidency for May, scheduled the meeting for May 5 in the afternoon.

Last week, Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for May, Ambassador Evangelos Sekeri,s said that a discussion will be held if a request comes for a meeting to discuss the situation between India and Pakistan.

“As I said before, as a position of principle, we strongly condemn any act of terrorism and this is what we did” on the "heinous terrorist attack” that took place in Pahalgam in which innocent civilians died, Sekeris had said.
