Dawoodi Bohra Delegation Meets PM Modi, Lauds Waqf Act: 'Your Vision Of Taking Everyone Along'

A delegation of Dawoodi Bohras met PM Modi to express gratitude for the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which has accommodated some of their key demands.

A delegation of the Dawoodi Bohras met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to express their gratefulness to him for the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which has accommodated some of their key demands. According to news agency PTI, the officials said that the community members told Modi that it was their long-pending demand as they reposed faith in his vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas'.

The delegation was accompanied by the Union Minister Kiren Rijiju in the meeting. The community, a prosperous but minuscule minority among Shia Muslims, was represented by noted lawyer Harish Salve during their representation to the Joint Committee of Parliament, which was headed by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, that had scrutinised the bill tabled in Parliament. It was based on the committee's recommendations that several new amendments were introduced in the bill, which was enacted following its passage in Parliament amid strident criticism from opposition parties.

According to news agency IANS, a member of the community speaking on Waqf said that the minority community truly appreciate being acknowledged and included in it.

"Your vision of taking everyone along, your commitment to unity, the work being done under your leadership, Inshallah, will bring great benefit to India and all its people...," he said as quoted by news agency IANS.

The Supreme Court is presently hearing a batch of pleas challenging the constitutionality of the law, described by the government as key to transparency and efficient management of Waqf properties.
