The controversy started after BJP MLC C T Ravi allegedly used derogatory language against Minister for Women and Child Development Laxmi Hebbalkar during a Legislative Council session on December 19.
The Karnataka State Women’s Commission has called for a high-level inquiry into allegations that BJP MLC C T Ravi used derogatory language against Minister for Women and Child Development Laxmi Hebbalkar during a session of the Legislative Council on December 19.
Commission chairperson Nagalakshmi Chowdhary wrote to Legislative Council Chairperson Basavaraj Horatti, condemning Ravi's remarks as an affront to women’s dignity. In her letter, she stated, "Requesting a high-level investigation into the reported incident that C T Ravi, Member of the Legislative Council, insulted the Minister for Women and Child Development Laxmi Hebbalkar by using vulgar and unconstitutional words."
On the FIR filed against him and his arrest on the complaint by Karnataka minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, BJP leader CT Ravi said, "I think this is a conspiracy to scare me... A planning was made for this...I feel very sad. I have been working for the past 20 years...I was arrested with false allegations against me...Without the permission of the Assembly speaker, a case was registered against me and I was arrested without any prior notice..."
He alleged that he was shifted from place to place in four districts for over 15 hours and expressed his suspicion over "some hidden agenda". He said, "Some of the isolated places were also there where I was taken to...If they can't give security to an MLA then how will they provide security to the common man? I complained also but no FIR has been registered yet. Why was my FIR not registered? The law is equal for everyone."
On CT Ravi's statement that an attempt has been made to kill him, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said, "He (CT Ravi) has filed a complaint in regard to this issue and the police is taking action..."
