Concepts Like 'Varna' And 'Jaati' Should Be Completely Discarded, Says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

Speaking at a book launch event in Nagpur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said the caste system has no relevance now.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday states that the concepts like `Varna' and `Jaati' (caste) should be completely discarded. Speaking at a book launch event in Nagpur, he said the caste system has no relevance now, news agency PTI reported.

The RSS chief stated, citing the recently released book "Vajrasuchi Tunk" by Dr Madan Kulkarni and Dr Renuka Bokare, that social equality was a part of Indian tradition, but it was forgotten, which had negative consequences.

In response to the claim that the Varna and caste systems did not originally have discrimination and had their uses, Bhagwat stated that if someone asked about these institutions today, the answer must be "it is past, let us forget it." "Everything that causes discrimination should go out lock, stock and barrel," the RSS chief said, PTI reported.

He also stated that previous generations made mistakes everywhere, including India.

"There should not be any problem accepting those mistakes. And if you think that by accepting that our ancestors made mistakes they will become inferior, that won't happen because everybody's ancestors made mistakes, "Bhagwat quoted as saying by PTI.

Earlier this week, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said in his first public statement on the Sangh's attempt to broaden its outreach following his September meeting with several clerics and visits to a mosque and a madrasa in Delhi. The "so-called minorities" are not in danger, and Hindutva organisations will continue to reach out to them to assuage their fears, he said, Times Of India reported.

Speaking at the RSS's foundation day celebration event in Reshimbaug, Nagpur, on the occasion of Vijayadashmi, Bhagwat asked the audience if they could imagine how many people India could feed in 50 years. He also questioned how people will be educated and cared for if the population continues to grow, The Hindu Reported.
