Commitment Towards Steepening Bilateral Security, Defence Cooperation: India To Japan During 2+2 Dialogue

Several world powers, including India have been talking about the need to ensure a free, open and thriving Indo-Pacific in view of rising threat from China in the region.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his Japanese counterpart Yasukazu Hamada during the second India-Japan 2+2 ministerial dialogue in Tokyo on Thursday and hailed the relationship between both the countries. He also reviewed various aspects of cooperation including regional affairs.

"Reviewed various aspects of bilateral defence cooperation and regional affairs during the bilateral meeting with Japan's Minister of Defence, Yasukazu Hamada in Tokyo today. This year marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries," Rajnath Singh said in a tweet.

"India and Japan pursue a Special Strategic and Global Partnership. India's defence partnership with Japan will play a crucial role in ensuring free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific region," he added.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also emphaised on strengthening defence ties between both the countries during the meet.

"Today's meeting demonstrates our commitment towards steepening our bilateral security and defence cooperation and also demonstrating the strength of our special strategic and global partnership," said Jaishankar, as reported by ANI.

Several world powers, including India have been talking about the need to ensure a free, open and thriving Indo-Pacific in view of rising threat from China in the region.

Rajnath Singh will also attend a community event organised by the Embassy of India in Tokyo and interact with the Indian diaspora in Japan. 

The economic relationship between India and Japan has steadily expanded and deepened in recent years as the volume of trade between the two countries has increased manifold.
