Cold Wave Likely To Intensify In Delhi, UP, Bihar, And Northeast; Check IMD Forecast
India is currently experiencing a cold wave. The India Meteorological Department has predicted further temperature drop in the next few days.
Weather Update: New Year's Eve was marked by extreme chill due to the cold wave, the effect of which was seen across North India, including in Delhi NCR, on the first day of the year. People were seen sitting by bonfires for most part of the day. Several mountainous regions saw snowfall. The effect of the cold wave will now intensify in the plains as well.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the westerly winds are bringing cold air from the mountains. Due to this, the temperature is continuously dropping. So, what would be the impact of the Cold Wave in the next few days?

Temperature Likely To Drop Further In Delhi
The temperature in Delhi was 10°C around 7 AM. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the capital are likely to remain around 18°C and 9° Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, light rain may occur from on January 4 and 5, due to which the cold may intensify further. The maximum temperature may drop to 15° Celsius.
Uttar Pradesh And Bihar To Bear Brunt Of Cold Wave
The mercury is on a free fall in Uttar Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, a severe cold alert has been issued for Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar and Baghpat districts on Thursday, January 2. There is also the possibility of a biting cold hitting Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Amroha and Moradabad districts. At the same time, the maximum temperature has come down below 14℃ in many districts including Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Bareilly.

People in Bihar are not going to get any relief from the cold either. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature will drop by the weekend. The worst affected districts are likely to be Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Arwal, Patna, Vaishali, Gaya, Jahanabad, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Begusarai and Khagaria. A forecast of dense fog has been issued for parts of Patna, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Samastipur, Jahanabad, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Shivhar, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Purnea and Saharsa districts.
Frost Alert In North India
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for dense fog in North India as well. An alert for severe cold in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and the surrounding areas of Delhi is also in effect. "Dense fog is very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura," a bulletin from the Meteorological department read.

"Ground Frost is very likely at places over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura," it added. The weather in these places is likely to remain the same till the weekend.
Rain May Occur In These States
According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of Western Disturbance is being seen in the northwestern part of Jammu and Kashmir. Due to this, rain may occur in Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding areas in the coming days. Apart from this, rain may occur in the South Tamil Nadu region, especially in Tirunelveli today. It had rained here on January 1 as well.
Himachal could receive fresh snowfall and rainfall from January 2. The rainfall could intensify on January 4 and 5.
