The state was plunged into a political turmoil after Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Hemant Soren resigned as Chief Minister and was later jailed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 in connection with a money laundering case. On February 1, Governor C P Radhakrishnan appointed Champai Soren, the state transport minister and JMM leader, as Chief Minister-designate.
Earlier, the ruling JMM-led coalition, had isolated its MLAs in a Hyderabad resort to prevent poaching ahead of the floor test. The BJP had said that the coalition's action reflected lack of confidence.
On Monday, Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated that he was confident that the INDIA alliance parties will win the floor test in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly. He further highlighted that the BJP's manoeuvre at "breaking" Congress and RJD in Bihar will also "fail miserably". Taking to X, Ramesh stated: "The INDIA group will easily win the vote of confidence today in Jharkhand and the BJP’s attempts at breaking RJD and INC in Bihar will also fail miserably."
