New Delhi: The curfew which was imposed in the wake of protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, has been relaxed in Assam on Sunday.
In Guwahati, the curfew has been relaxed today in Guwahati from 9 am to 6 pm, GP Singh, Additional DGP Law & Order, Assam said.
In Dibrugarh, the curfew has been relaxed from 7 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
Protests erupted in Guwahati, Dibrugarh and other parts of Assam following the passage of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, in the Parliament on Wednesday, and it becoming an Act thereupon after the Presidential assent on Thursday.

As many as 26 Army columns have been deployed in Assam to assist the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to handle the situation.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, provides for citizenship to non-Muslim refugees of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.
Mamata requests protesters in West Bengal to shun violence:
Miffed over the damage caused to public property during the anti-citizenship act protests in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee o on Saturday requested people in the state to not create any disturbance or get involved in any kind of violence with respect to protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
In a video message tweeted by West Bengal police, Banerjee said, "I request everyone to not create any disturbance or involve in any kind of violence. Be sure that the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will not be implemented in Bengal as we won't allow it."
"Please don't block roads and take law in hands," she said.
