Chandro Tomar Aka 'Shooter Dadi' Passes Away Due To COVID-19, Taapsee Pannu & Bhumi Pednekar Mourn Her Death

Chandro Tomar was admitted to a hospital after she tested positive for Coronavirus.

Veteran sharpshooter Chandro Tomar, fondly known as 'Shooter Dadi', passed away on Friday (April 30). She was 89. Chandro was admitted to a hospital in Meerut after she tested positive for COVID-19. 

The octogenarian shooter was hospitalized after she complained of difficulty in breathing. The official Twitter handle of the shooter had shared the news about her ill health.

“Dadi Chandro Tomar has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to a hospital due to breathing issues. God protect all – Family,” the tweet read. 

A film based on her and Prakashi Tomar’s life titled ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ released in 2019. The movie starred Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles. Taapsee took to social media to pen an emotional note for Chandro. She tweeted, "For the inspiration you will always be... You will live on forever in all the girls you gave hope to live. My cutest rockstar May peace be with you."

Bhumi Pednekar expressed grief over Chandro Tomar's death and said that her legacy will live forever. The 'Bala' actress offered condolence to her family and said that she was lucky to play her role in 'Saand Ki Aankh'.

"Devastated by the news of Chandro Dadi’s demise. Feels like a part of me is gone. She made her own rules & paved the path for many girl to find their dream. Her legacy will live on in them. Condolences to the family. Am lucky I got to know and be her," the actress wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Kangana Ranaut, while responding to a post on Twitter, mourned Tomar's death. She tweeted, "No please no."

Chandro became an accomplished shooter in her 60s after she learned shooting in 1999. She bagged more than 30 national championships and was credited as the oldest (woman) sharpshooter in the world.

Chandro’s family members including her husband had expressed their displeasure when she started her sharpshooting career. Despite the opposition, she continued to participate in competitions. The legendary shooter encouraged other families to allow their girls and daughters to participate in the sport.
