Rahul Gandhi Tears Into Centre & State Govt Over CAA, NRC; Says Won't Let RSS, BJP Run Assam

Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP and the RSS will not be allowed to attack the culture, language and identity of Assam and the Northeast adding that Assam can never progress with hatred and violence.

Guwahati: On the 135th Foundation Day of the grand old Congress party, its former President Rahul Gandhi launched a stringent attacked on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) over the ongoing countrywide protests against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill and the proposed National Register Of Citizens (NRC). While addressing an Ashtitwa Rakhyar Samabekh rally in Guwahati, Rahul Gandhi said that Assam might return to the path of violence due to policies of the BJP governments at the Centre and the state. Expressing concern over the ongoing violence against the amended Citizenship Act, Rahul said the spirit of Assam Accord which brought peace to the state, should not be ruined. "I want to tell you that I am with you in your joys and sorrows alike," he said. Further criticising the saffron party for the reported action taken against the protesters, Congress leader said BJP’s handling of the situation is all wrong. "If the public wants to convey what they feel peacefully, there is no need to resort to violence, shoot them. The public can be heard with love," he said. "Whole world has recognised that economy is the power of India. Modi destroyed the power of Mother India by implementing demonetisation, GST. Modi doesn't say anything about this, his job is only to divide the people of India and spread hatred," Rahul Gandhi said. "They implemented demonetisation by saying they want to fight black money. Instead, they took money out of your pockets and gave crores to their industrialist friends," he said asking BJP how much debt of farmers were waived off? Continuing his attack at the PM Modi-led BJP government at the Centre, Rahul said that the Prime Minister has failed to provide employments to the two crore youths of the country. "He waives taxes of big industrialists, but not of poor farmers and shopkeepers," he said. Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP and the RSS will not be allowed to attack the culture, language and identity of Assam and the Northeast adding that Assam can never progress with hatred and violence. Concluding his speech, the Congress leader said, "Assam will neither be run by RSS men in Nagpur. Everyone has to come together and tell the BJP leaders that they can't attack the culture, language, identity and history of the state."
