Rajnath Singh Inaugurates BrahMos Unit: 'Roar Of Our Armed Forces Heard Even In Rawalpindi'

The BrahMos production unit at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor in Lucknow was jointly inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inaugurated the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos production unit at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor in Lucknow.

The facility, virtually inaugurated by Singh from New Delhi, is built at a cost of Rs 300 crore and will manufacture one of the world's fastest supersonic cruise missiles, with a range of 290 to 400 km and a top speed of Mach 2.8.

Addressing the gathering virtually, Singh said, "It is National Technology Day today. On this day in 1998, under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, our scientists held nuclear test in Pokhran and showed India's strength to the world. That test was the result of immense efforts of our scientists, engineers, defence personnel and several other stakeholders."

Lauding Indian armed forces for Operation Sindoor, Singh said the roar of the forces "was felt even in Rawalpindi where headquarters of Pak Army is located."

The missile is a product of BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India and Russia and can be launched from land, sea, or air and uses a "fire and forget" system.

The BrahMos production unit in Lucknow, completed in three and a half years, stands on 80 hectares of land provided free of cost by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Other Projects Launched During Event

Besides the manufacturing unit, the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility was also launched during the event. The facility will play a significant role in testing and assembling missiles, according to an official statement.

During the event, the Titanium and Super Alloys Materials Plant (Strategic Materials Technology Complex) was also opened. The plant will produce high-quality materials for the aerospace and defence sectors.

The foundation stone of Defence Testing Infrastructure System (DTIS) will also laid at the event which will help test and certify defence products.

The UP Defence Industrial Corridor was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 and has six nodes in Lucknow, Kanpur, Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot.

These Defence Corridors have been made to attract major investments to boost defence manufacturing.
