"Tough road for BJP if it goes to polls without building Ram Temple", says Swamy

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attacked Congress over the Ram Temple issue as he said that the opposition party was trying to impede the judicial process for resolution of the matter.

New Delhi: BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said that BJP should be ready to face a huge loss, if it goes to elections without the Ram Temple or without starting construction work for it. While interacting with reporters, Swamy said that the government is Supreme owner of the land. It should follow the protocol of paying compensatory amount and at least begin the construction work and should let the court decide who the title of the land goes to. Swamy said: “In the Supreme Court, the hearing is for who will get the title of the land. As per Constitution, the government is the supreme owner of the land, If the government has to acquire any land, it gives compensation to the owner. This is what the government should do now- pay a compensation and tell the Supreme Court that they may take 10 years, 20 years to reach verdict, we have no objection, but the land belongs to government. “When the court will decide who the land belongs to, government will pay compensation to the owner” Swami said. Swami said “if the Ram Temple is constructed then the alliance will be washed off from UP in the elections and it will not be able to win even five seats, and the BJP will win 75 seats.” But if the temple is not built, BJP will have to incur a huge loss, he said. “I believe that going to elections without the Ram Temple or without even starting the construction work for it, will be equivalent to suicide for the party. He also asked BJP workers to remind the masses about the Congress' stand on the issue. In his concluding address at the BJP national convention here, Modi briefly touched on the Ram temple issue, drawing cheers from thousands of party workers gathered at Ramlila Maidan, but remained confined to targeting the Congress. "In the Ayodhya issue, the Congress is trying to impede the judicial process through its lawyers. The Congress does not want resolution of the Ayodhya issue," Modi said. "We should not forget its attitude and (also) not let others forget it," he told party workers. With hardly a couple of months left for the national polls, the political heat surrounding the Ram Mandir issue has intensified. Ram Temple was one of the key promises that the government made before it came to power in 2014.
