#MeToo campaign: The #MeToo movement - which led to thousands of people to come forward and share their stories of sexual harassment at workplaces- has become a widely talked issue in India. It gained momentum in the country after Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment. In recent days other Bollywood figures, a comedian, a best-selling author, and top journalists have all found themselves accused of abusing their positions to behave improperly towards women. This has emboldened others to speak out at last as well.
However, keeping her point of view on the much-hyped #MeToo campaign on social media, BJP leader Usha Thakur has termed the movement as mere a 'shortcut' for women to get success. She said that such women are compromising with ethical values for their personal interests. The MLA from Indore in Madhya Pradesh added by saying that the success achieved by compromising the values of life is meaningless.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women has urged the victims of sexual crimes to report their cases to the police and the women's panel, creating a dedicated email ID to receive such complaints. "It has taken a lot of courage for women and girls to narrate the incidents of sexual assault faced by them and the Commission stands in solidarity with them in their struggle. This reporting will pave the path for putting these sexual predators behind bars, something that should have been done long ago," DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal said in a statement. Women can register their complaints at "metoodcw@gmail.com", she said.
