Ghazipur Border Clash: Scuffle Breaks Out Between Agitating Farmers, BJP Workers

Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait in a statement accused some people of hurling abuses, raising BJP flags and pelting stones at protesters.

New Delhi: A scuffle broke out between agitating farmers and several Bharatiya Janata Party workers at Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border on Wednesday afternoon.

As per the early inputs, fight broke out when BJP workers took out a procession on the flyway where the protesting farmers have been camping since November 2020.

Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait in a statement accused some people of hurling abuses, raising BJP flags and pelting stones at protesters.

"For the past three days a few people with BJP flags have been coming over here (Ghazipur border). They want to start violence. Today they went to the stage where sloganeering happens and started pelting stones," Rakesh Tikait said.

"They were hurling abuses; many got injured from our side too. We are filing a police complaint. The police are not looking into it and we want them arrested. They were not people from BJP. They left their flags here and ran away it means they were paid," the BKU leader added.

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that “due to a few unfortunate incidents, the word ‘kisaan’ has become tarnished”.

"Due to a few unfortunate incidents the word has become tarnished. Dignity of sisters and daughters has been taken away, murders are happening, roads being blocked. I condemn the incidents that are undemocratic," Chief Minister said.

Thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana have been camping at several borders of the nations capital, protesting against the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Till date, the agitators and government have held about 11 rounds of talks yet the deadlock remains.
