BJP-AIADMK Coming Together Again? Here's What Amit Shah Says Ahead Of 2026 Tamil Nadu Polls
Union Minister Amit Shah's statement follows a meeting with Edappadi Palaniswami in New Delhi on Tuesday, marking the first official interaction over a possible alliance.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed that discussions are underway between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) regarding a potential alliance for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Speaking at a television summit, Shah stated that the outcome of these talks would be shared with the public once finalised.
Criticising the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, Shah alleged that Tamil Nadu’s economic and employment situation had worsened under Chief Minister MK Stalin’s leadership. He claimed that industries were moving out of the state and that despite higher salaries, people were reluctant to work there, as tweeted by BJP India.
The Union Minister also accused the DMK of using the issues of language and delimitation as a diversionary tactic to conceal corruption and avoid electoral defeat. He assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised that the delimitation process would be conducted fairly, without causing injustice to any region.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai recently stated that the party’s national leadership would determine the nature of alliances for the 2026 polls as part of their strategy to challenge the DMK government, as per a report on Times of India.
The statement of the BJP leaders come amid a meet between AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and Amit Shah. Earlier this week, EPS met the Union Minister in Delhi, marking the first official interaction between the two parties over a possible political partnership ahead of the elections. Earlier, EPS kept denying the possibility of an alliance between both the parties. However, in recent days, the former CM appears to have loosened the strands paving the way for reviving the alliance between AIADMK and BJP.
