Victims Badly Beaten Up Before Being Burnt Alive: Autopsy Report On Birbhum Violence

So far, at least 20 people have been arrested in connection with this incident suspected to have been triggered by a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader’s killing earlier on Monday evening.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing row over the violence in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, the post-mortem examination of the eight people burnt alive in Bogtui village has revealed that they were badly beaten up before the carnage.

The victims, as per preliminary findings of the forensic experts who conducted the tests on the charred bodies found inside the houses that were allegedly set on fire by unidentified people early on Tuesday, were first badly beaten up and then burnt alive, news agency PTI reported an official from the Rampurhat hospital as saying.

So far, at least 20 people have been arrested in connection with this incident suspected to have been triggered by a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader’s killing earlier on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee visited the Bogtui village and met the kin of those killed in the violence.

She handed over a cheque of Rs five lakh to the kin of those killed in the violence.

The security has been stepped up in Rampurhat to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during Banerjee’s visit.

Banerjee may also visit the Rampurhat hospital to meet those injured.

West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and a five-member Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central team are also scheduled to visit Bogtui.

Describing the violence in Birbhum district as “unfortunate”, Banerjee earlier on Wednesday said that it was an attempt by the BJP, Left and the Congress to malign her government.

The TMC supremo said that strict action would be taken against perpetrators of the violence in Birbhum district.
