While Nitish Kumar will take the oath as Chief Minister, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav will be sworn-in as the Deputy Chief Minister, reported news agency PTI citing sources.

New Delhi: After breaking ranks with the Bharatiya Janata Party thus quitting the NDA, a day later on Wednesday Nitish Kumar is set to take oath for the Chief Minister of Bihar for the eighth time since he was sworn-in for the office in the year 2000.

While Nitish Kumar will take the oath as Chief Minister, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav will be sworn-in as the Deputy Chief Minister, reported news agency PTI citing sources.

Here is a timeline of Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister of Bihar

  • March 3, 2000: Nitish Kumar first took the oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar but remained in the office for a mere seven day term.
  • March 10, 2000: Nitish resigned from the office even before a trust vote could take place in the Assembly, since neither the RJD nor the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could reach the halfway mark in the Bihar Assembly,
  • November 24, 2005: Nitish Kumar once again was sworn-in as the Chief Minister after his party won 88 seats in the 2005 Bihar elections. His ally, the BJP had won 55 seats comfortably sailing the government through halfway 122 mark in a curtailed 243-member house due to formation of Jharkhand. Nitish successfully completed his five year term.
  • November 26, 2010: Nitish took the oath as CM for a second consecutive term.
  • May 20, 2014: He parted ways with BJP and after losing polls resigned from post and appointed Jitan Ram Manjhi as the Chief Minister.
  • February 22, 2015: Nitish Kumar again returned as the Chief Minister saying that it was his mistake to resign from the office.
  • November 20, 2015: He was again sworn-in as the Chief Minister after winning with a sweeping majority along with the RJD, but parted ways with the party in 2017 and joined hands with the BJP and successfully completed his term in the office.
  • November 16, 2020: The BJP-JD(U) alliance once again was elected in power and Nitish Kumar took the oath as CM.
