Bihar Govt Team Set To Visit Tamil Nadu: CM Nitish Kumar After Alleged 'Attacks' On Migrant Labourers

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that a team from the state government will visit Tamil Nadu in view of claims of alleged "attacks" on migrant labourers in the DMK-ruled state.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said that a team from the state government is set to visit Tamil Nadu and take stock of the situation in view of claims of alleged "attacks" on migrant labourers in the DMK-ruled state.

"A team from the Bihar government will visit (Tamil Nadu) and take stock of the situation": Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said when asked about reports of alleged "attacks" on migrant labourers in Tamil Nadu.

On Thursday, he took to Twitter and informed that he has instructed officials in Bihar to get in touch with their counterparts in Tamil Nadu and ensure the security of labourers from Bihar, who are eking out a living in the southern state.

"I have learnt from newspapers that labourers from Bihar who are employed in Tamil Nadu are being attacked. I have asked the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Bihar to speak to officials in Tamil Nadu and ensure the safety and security of Bihari workers there," the Chief Minister tweeted.

Reports of physical assaults on labourers from Bihar and other Hindi-speaking regions, with videos on social media, surfaced in the recent past.

Meanwhile, the Tiruppur administration and police clarified that the viral videos showing alleged attacks on migrant workers in Tamil Nadu are fake and action will be taken against the ones spreading such rumours.

In a 'booklet', Tiruppur Police stated: "Videos/photos were tweeted by one Mohamad Tanvir in his Twitter page as it was assaulted North Indians are being attacked in Tamil Nadu, the said rumours were spread viral in social media. However, the truth of the information relating to said video/photos are related to some other incident."

"For spreading misleading videos viral in social media, a case has been registered in Cyber Crime PS Cr. NO : 08/23 U/s 153(B), 505(2) IPC, 66D of IT Act against the Twitter post and it is under investigation," it mentioned.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav also tweeted, “DGP Tamil Nadu is categorically stating that it is completely baseless and rumour mongering that migrant workers of Bihar are being targeted in Tamil Nadu. Old video of violence is mischievously being spread stating people of Bihar are no longer safe in Tamil Nadu, creating panic.”
