Legend of Bhai Dooj:
This legend is based on Dharamraj Yamaraj and Yamuna, children of Lord Surya and his wife Sandhya. However, Sandhya wasn't able to live with the heat and brightness of Lord Surya and went back to her parents, leaving behind Yamaraj and Yamuna. But, she left her replica, Chhaya with Lord Surya. Yamraj and Yamuna were deprived of motherly love as they were not Chhaya's own children. This is why they had a lot of love for each other. After Yamuna got married, Dharmaraj Yamaraj arrived at his sister's home after being invited by her on the eve of Dwitiya. Yamuna welcomed her brother and celebrated her brother's arrival. She then put a 'Tilak' on her brother Yamaraj's head. Since then, the auspicious festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the Second Day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik Mas every year.
This year, the auspicious time of worship on Dwitiya started at 11.14 pm on 5th November and ends at 7.44 pm on 6th November. According to this, Bhai Dooj would be celebrated on the second date on Dwitiya, which is November 6th. According to the astrologer, sisters can apply Tilak on their brothers' heads between 01:10 pm and 03:21 pm on this day.
