New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced to hold a nationwide dharna on May 5 against the widespread violence unleashed allegedly by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers post the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

The BJP, which made the announcement on its official Twitter handle, said this protest will be held following all Covid-19 protocols across all organisational mandals of the party.

“The BJP has announced a nationwide dharna on 5th May against the widespread violence unleashed by TMC workers post the election results in West Bengal. This protest will be held following all Covid protocols across all organisational mandals of the BJP,” the saffron party tweeted.

The BJP further said national party chief J.P. Nadda will be visiting West Bengal on May 4 and 5 “in view of the widespread post results retributive violence unleashed on BJP workers and supporters”.

“BJP National President Shri JP Nadda will be visiting West Bengal on 4-5 May, in view of the widespread post results, retributive violence unleashed on BJP workers and supporters by criminal elements in the TMC cadre. He will be visiting families of the affected karyakartas,” the party said in another post.

Meanwhile, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya lambasted the TMC over the violence in West Bengal, especially Nandigram, where the women workers of his party were beaten up by the TMC “goons”.

“TMC Muslim Goons are beating BJP Women Workers in kendamari village, Nandigram #Shamemamatabannerjee #ShameTMC,” he wrote on Twitter.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury also condemned the “gruesome violence” in West Bengal and said “instead of focusing on combating the pandemic TMC unleashes such mayhem”.

Taking note of the outbreak of alleged political violence in West Bengal after the declaration of poll results, the Union Home Ministry has asked the state government for a detailed report on post-election targeting of political workers belonging to the opposition camp.

“MHA has asked West Bengal Government for a report on the post-election violence targeting opposition political workers in the state,” the MHA spokesperson tweeted.

This came as West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar earlier in the day summoned state DGP P. Nirajnayan over the alleged 'alarming' law and order situation.
