At no stage pilot declared fuel priority or emergency: Indigo airline on Mamata's low plane fuel controversy

New Delhi: The Indigo airline has issued statement regarding their flight in which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently, which was allegedly short on fuel as it circled over Kolkata airport for nearly half an hour. "The inquiry was conducted by the regulator supported by IndiGo safety department. Pilots operating flight 6E 342 have been kept off flying duties till investigations and discussions with DGCA are complete", statement said. "As an airline we always comply with the DGCA guidelines- IndiGo Captain had followed all SOPs as laid by the regulator and at no stage the Captain declared a fuel priority or an emergency. There has been no violation or breach of any regulatory requirement in the above mentioned matter. We are taking up the matter in greater detail with the DGCA" said the spokesperson. Background: The All India Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee was flying back from Patna to Kolkata. She was  returning from her rally against demonetisation. As per reports, the Indigo flight, that she was on, wasn’t allowed to land in spite of it repeatedly informing Air Traffic Control (ATC) that it was low on fuel. Meanwhile, the ATC’s denial that the pilot had informed them about being low on fuel. The Trinamool Congress alleged that there was a conspiracy to eliminate Mamata Banerjee.
